SPELLING TIP

Do you agree with me that sometimes spelling can be confusing too ? Especially when we need to use in past tense form and to decide whether it is single letter or double letter.

Here's the simple tip :

1. If the words end with a 'consonant' letter and before the letter (last letter) is a 'vowel' letter, the spelling for past tense form must be in double letter . Here are some examples :

TRAVEL - TRAVELLED
HUG - HUGGED
BEG - BEGGED
OCCUR - OCCURRED
SLAP - SLAPPED
PERMIT - PERMITTED

Note : As usual there are exceptions in English. You might come across this tip is not applicable for some words smile emoticon

Happy learning !!!

GRAMMAR BOOSTER WORKSHOP AT SEK. KEB. KOTA JEMBAL, KOTA BHARU KELANTAN

Received an invitation in the last minute from the school to provide a workshop to 135 pupils of year 4 and 5. At first a bit reluctant to accept due to time shortage for making preparation.
However, in the end the workshop was still carried out ...

Even it was held within a very short period of preparation time, it was a solid success !!! It was assured from their sparkling smiles and their glittering eyes  :)

Fuh...mission complete ! Alhamdulillah

TIPS TO ANSWER SECTION D - ESSAY WRITING ( PT3 ENGLISH PAPER )

PT3 ENGLISH PAPER : SECTION D - ESSAY WRITING

As I was having some spare time last weekend, I spent the precious time to check my son's writing. I was so disappointed to see he failed to connect his ideas coherently and his grammar was also terrible.

Spontaneously I shared these tips with him. I told him that these tips were useful and applicable every time he comes across a comprehension question that requires a detail explanation of an event or a description/chronology of what happened.

Throughout my observation, most of essay questions for section D require the candidates to describe the event based on the picture/illustration given.

Here are the tips shared with him :

1. The first 5 minutes before starting the essay,  draft the 5 or 6  WH Questions. The questions would be like this :

** What was the incident/event/tragedy ?

** Who involved in the incident/event/tragedy ?

** When did it happen?

** Where did it happen?

** Why did it happen?

** How did it happen?

Answer each question as details as possible. This is to make your essay very informative and illustrative. Try to be imaginative by referring to the pictures given.

Then, connect all the answers to write a chronology of what happened.

2. Tenses to be used for this type of question are PAST TENSE FAMILY. Since you are told to describe what happened so you can use SIMPLE PAST TENSE, PAST CONTINUOUS TENSE and also PAST PERFECT TENSE respectively.
Remember to use appropriate tense for each sentence constructed.
SIMPLE PRESENT TENSE is only used if you are told to give suggestions or opinions.

This is one example of SECTION D QUESTION :

The picture below shows an incident of a hit-and-run accident you witnessed while you were coming back from your tuition class.

When writing about the recount, you should

describe what happened
express what you felt
give suggestions of what you think a driver of a hit-and-run accident should do

Obviously in this question, it needs the candidate to describe the incident vividly. Thus, the answers from WH Questions would be a great help. Remember to link the chronology of what happened by using the appropriate tenses as being discussed earlier.

Good Luck My Dear Son & All PT3 Candidates

MY WAY OF INTRODUCING PARTS OF SPEECH & NOUNS AS SUBJECT AND OBJECT

I was invited to teach for IEP (INTERVENTIONAL ENGLISH PROGRAMME) of Form Two Students in one of secondary schools  in Kota Bharu.

I since then, have been preparing a suitable lesson for two hours of teaching. Since learning grammar is mostly not favoured by majority students, I have to make the lesson as interesting as possible just to make them feel the excitement of learning English and most importantly they do not reject me in the first meeting...ahaaa....

I got a strong feeling that what i have projected and planned for the lesson will be of utmost acceptable and most likely could instill their liking towards grammar.

This is my lesson plan for 2 hours of teaching :

+ Introduction to 8 Parts of Speech ( Referring to handouts )

+ Exercises on recognising each P.O.S are given

+ Brief intro about ' Sentence ' & ' Sentence Structure ' (SVO)

   - Provide exercises on Nouns as Subject & Nouns as Object

+ Group Activity / Interactive Games

   - Each group has to read one short article from the newspaper (NST/THE STAR)

   - Find 10 Nouns as Subject & Find 10 Nouns as Object

   - Write all Nouns in vocabulary book and find meaning from the dictionary

+ Alternative Activity

   -  Students are to form group comprises of 3 person.

   -  Each student has to represent Subject, Verb and Object respectively.

    - The group comes to the front and Subject has to write one Noun word on the board. ( it can either        be a Singular Nouin or a Plural Noun )

    - Then, Subject has to pass the marker pen to Verb. The Verb has to write a suitable Verb word and        lastly forward to Object to complete the sentence.

    -  Group with more correct sentences wins the game

By sharing it here, this can be used for my later reference and may be as reference for other teachers as well...

Don't forget to drop me some comments of this teaching lesson !

Good Luck to me and to you too !!!

KISAH IBU DAN ANAK SERTA 25 KEKELIRUAN BAHASA INGGERIS

Al fatihah to nenek Meliah Md Diah,101, who died yesterday.
Her news who had devoted her life taking care of her disabled son went viral on social networking sites and garnered more than a million likes.
May Allah takes good care of her and her disabled son too will be managed well by family.
My 15 year old son who was also interested with this news shocked me when he was asking me about the grammar usage in the writing instead of the news....
These were amongst his questions :
‪#‎Umi‬, why 'has died' is used not 'died'.
# Why do the tenses mixed up ?
Some sentences used 'past tense', some were written in past perfect n there were also sentences with 'present perfect tense'
So confusing la...
Without replying to his questions, I quickly grabbed the yellow book ' 25 Kekeliruan BI' which was at that time on the table and passed to him.
Softly I said to him....All the answers of your questions are in this book . Thank you for finding the answers here....
He simply showed his plain smile and walking away from me with the book in hands....

E BOOK ON ENGLISH TENSES - EASY & EFFECTIVE APPROACH ( PART 1 )

Assalam & Selamat Sejahtera !

4. Percubaan pertama Teacher menulis buku 25 KEKELIRUAN BAHASA INGGERIS dalam BM mendapat respon cukup positif daripada pelajar/pembaca. Rata2 menyatakan buku itu amat membantu kerana MUDAH difahami.

================================================

** Kini, E-Book On English Tenses ini ditulis untuk membantu anda menguasai TENSES dengan cara MUDAH & EFEKTIF . Penjelasan dalam dwi bahasa, BI & BM dan dibantu dengan penggunaan TABLE/JADUAL untuk senang faham dan ingat.
** Latihan dalam BENTUK JADUAL juga turut diselitkan untuk setiap TENSES.
** Amat mesra pelajar, ibubapa yang ingin membantu anak-anak dan sesiapa sahaja yang sering keliru dengan TENSES !!!
** Dengan harga serendah RM 10.00 sahaja, E- BOOK 33 ms ini sudah menjadi milik anda.

INTENSIVE GRAMMAR CLASS FOR KIDS & ADULTS

THE IMPACT OF 25 KEKELIRUAN BAHASA INGGERIS TO WEAK STUDENTS

When I started writing 25 Kekeliruan Bahasa Inggeris 2 years ago, It never came across my mind that the book is ultimately helpful for students especially weak students.

I just write with the intention to highlight on major confusions of English. At the same time I want readers to fully digest the explanation especially in terms of usage of tenses by using BM as the medium of language.

During my 2 days Grammar Booster Workshop at Sek Keb Palekbang, a kampung school with on...ly about 43 UPSR pupils, my thought drastically changed when I got to know my book has been a great help for majority of them.

They were so happy and really thanked me for giving the books to them. For some of them, who have since long regarded English as their greatest enemy start to ignite interest in English, as reading the explanation in BM assist them to understand better.

I am more than happy knowing my piece of writing is truly meaningful for these amazing kids. At least it's a kick start to instil interest in them. Hope they stay motivated and determined to excel with flying colours...

Pray for you kids !!!

GRAMMAR BOOSTER - FINAL PREPARATION

GRAMMAR BOOSTER - FINAL PREPARATION

Mana mungkin pelajar yg pencapaiannya D sepanjang tahun mampu meraih A hanya selepas bengkel 2 hari .
Walau bagaimanapun, teacher tetap positif dan optimis yg bengkel ini pasti akan meninggalkan kesan yg baik walaupun sedikit buat anak2 pelajar ini.
Tidak sabar rasanya utk menatap wajah dan merenung mata2 mereka yg penuh harap. Semoga apa yg sedang direncanakan ini bakal membantu mereka utk menghadapi ujian peperiksaan nanti . Hanya Allah sahaja yg tahu nasib dan takdir mereka. Kita hanya melaksana apa yg termampu dgn penuh harapan Allah menilai apa yg kita buat .
