Assalam and Hello Again ,
I was doing my translation job just now, when suddenly I was thinking of taking a break for a while... just to fulfill my temptation to write. Oh... I don't know why ? I'm crazy of writing ! I like writing too much as much as I like eating my favourite food ! I feel extremely at ease everytime I could my express my ideas and my feelings through writing...
Throughout my teaching career ,'writing class' or 'writing activity' is the most unpopular and the most rejected by most of my students. They rather do any other odd activity as long as not writing ! For them writing is very hard for not having good mastery of English vocabularies , not having sufficient knowledge to write good content and mastery of grammatical skills are also bad !
For me, those reasons are most likely to be very true as writing really requires good mastery of all English skills , but partly is not true. It doesn't mean that writing could not be done by not proficient in all the skills. Everything is possible to be done by making it as a habit. Writing habit could be developed from young . Parents for instance can encourage their young children of age 4 or 5 years to write a simple birthday greetings like ' Happy Birthday' , ' I love You ' , " My Gift For You ", etc just to teach them to express feelings and ideas through writing. Bit by bit, the habit of writing will be developed slowly and the child is used to express ideas and feelings through writing.
The same thing goes to adult learners , expressing ideas through writing will be much easier if the habit of expressing whatever you feel , you do , you experience daily is consistently practised . This can be done by recording or reporting your daily experience in a journal or personal diary. This job is much easier at these days with the assistance of sophisticated handphones , computers and many other advance gadjets . Pens and paper are no longer needed, just write everything by using any of the gadjets. Very fast and easy !
By continuously doing this, later you will find expressing ideas through writing is much easier . Just as what I'm doing now. I don't write serious matters like politics, economy or religious ! I just write about my experience and my feeling... You too can write like me... Have a try !

FOBIA BAHASA INGGERIS ? KETAHUI CARA SAYA MELAKUKANNYA...
Salam and Good Day to all ,
Today is 17th December, 2012 which means there are only about 2 weeks left for the new year of 2013 will emerge. The same as other years, 2012 also will leave all of us with abundance of sweet and sour memories which will remain in our heart forever...
As for English language aspect, I could see lots of books and tips written throughout the year emphasising on ways and techniques to improve English. Many useful tips recommended such as reading English newspapers, reading English story books, list down new words every day , writing a journal or a personal diary in English , listen to English songs , watch English movies , practice spoken English daily and many other good tips.
It is undeniable that these techniques are very practical and fundamental to be done for English proficiency to be improved. In fact, every English learner must consistently and continuously practise these techniques or at least any one or two of the techniques in order to master the language. Remember, no easy way to get success !
For me, having strong determination and motivation to learn is as important as knowing the techniques to learn, or in some cases high motivation to do is much much more vital. Everything will turn into ashes if you know deeply the techniques but having no desire,no spirit, no inspiration and most importantly no willingness to do !
The question is how to be motivated ? How to be determined and how to get inspired ? Many believe that strong motivation from inside would not easily derived unless the reasons for doing it are very close to our heart, life and family. So, how to correlate between English and our life or family. Is it very hard ? I guess it is not that hard because this was done by me throughout the long years when I had to struggle to improve my English.
Lots of my students were in disbelief when I said I was so poor in English during my school days. I was in the second last class for 3 consecutive years until I left the school. My English grade was also not excellent until I went to university, my English was still poor. So, how do I manage to get through with English untill I can speak quite well , write good English and mostly rewarding is teach English !!! It's unbelievable but true..
As I said earlier, every impossible thing in life can be done/achieved by having strong motivation , high determination and strong desire. This is the secret of my success. Eventhough I am not as success as the others for just being an English educator, my battle to improve my English is a big success for me !
Note : Dear Readers, My book on " Fobia Bahasa Inggeris ? Ketahui cara saya melakukannya " is in process to be published . This is a book about my battle and hardship and also the sweet and sour moments in my journey to learn and improve English. This book can be read by everyone as a source of inspirational and motivational in improving English. Insya Allah.

Don't Say, " Horn That Car Loudly ! "
Hello readers ! Here I am again, trying my best to spend some time to share something beneficial to everyone.
Yesterday, everybody was excited with the beautiful and memorable date ever existed in history which was 12.12.12 !!! Ya....very beautiful number and hardly forgotten. Congrats to those of you who can keep the best memories in life by getting married , celebrating birthdays , having newborn babies and other important matters on this historical date ! Surely it is the best memories ever...
What I'm going to discuss here has no connection at all with numbers or dates but it is about the way Malaysians practise spoken English. Malaysians have their own brand of English which is quite distinct from that spoken by the native speakers in Britain. There is a tendency by local speakers to reduce the number of syllables in certain words. Thus Malaysian speakers have contracted "spectacles" to "specs", "darling" to "dar" and many others.
Other than that, Malaysians also keen to use the word "horn" as a verb. Whereas standard English uses "horn" only as a noun. Therefore, local speakers may use a sentence like this : " The man horned loudly" , but the standard use is " The man sounded his horn loudly ". In standard English, horn is a noun, not a verb. Same goes to the words 'trumpet' and 'drum'. These words can never be used as verbs in standard English ! However, local users usually use them as verbs. For example in this sentence : "She is always trumpeting the cleverness of her daughter"., " Michael drummed on the table with his fingers".
Below are other examples of local expressions and words which are not standard English :
Chop
Local use : Chop this form, please.
Standard English : Please stamp this form.
On/Off
Local use : Please off the lights when you leave the room.
Standard English : Please switch off the lights when you leave the room.
(In standard English, on and off are not verbs)
Cut
Local use : We cannot cut buses on this busy road.
Standard English : We cannot pass /overtake buses on this busy road.
Open
Local use : Open the lights. Open the screw.
Standard English : Switch on the lights. Loosen the screw.
Follow
Local use : I will follow you to the party.
Standard English : I will go with you to the party.
(In standard English, follow means "to go behind" )
That's all for now ...! Let's try our best to use standard English and reduce oddities in our spoken English.

MORE ON CONFUSING WORDS IN ENGLISH
Hello Readers,
This time once again I would like to discuss on confusing
words and some oddities in Malaysian English. This is because these words are
repeatedly used wrongly in written form as well as the oddities, have been
regarded as correct English in Malaysia.
Some confusing words are as follows:
All together VS
Altogether
All together (adv) means “to tell a group of people to all
say or do something at the same time”
Altogether (adv)
means “something has been done completely or has finished completely” or “in total”
Examples:
Mix it all together
with a spoon.
It seems to have vanished altogether.
Apart VS A
Part
Apart (adv) - if people are apart, they are not together
in the same place, or not having a relationship with each other
A part ( noun) - a piece of something
that forms the whole of something.
Examples:
The children have
never been apart before.
They
made me feel like I was a part of
the family.
All
ready VS Already
All ready means "completely
ready".
Already is an adverb that means before the
present time or earlier than the time expected.
Examples:
"Are
you all ready for the test?"
. "I asked him to come to the cinema but he'd
already seen the film."
Alone VS Lonely
Alone, can be used as an adjective or adverb. Either use means without other people or on your own.
Alone, can be used as an adjective or adverb. Either use means without other people or on your own.
Lonely is an adjective which means you are unhappy
because you are not with other people.
Examples:
"He likes living alone."
"I think we're alone now." = There are just the two of us here.
"I think we're alone now." = There are just the two of us here.
"The house feels lonely now that all
the children have left home."
- Just because you're alone, doesn't mean you're lonely.
Ok
readers, that’s all for now as I’m rushing for other urgent matters!!! Oddities
in Malaysian English will be discussed later. Hopefully with GOD will in my
next entry…

NEVER GIVE UP FROM HIS BLESSINGS
It was 3.30 am. Slowly I woke up from my
bed to go out of my bedroom. I did not know what went wrong with me… I could
not sleep at all even I had been trying very hard to let my eyes closed and had
been reciting all the prayers and quranic verses whichever I could remember.
It was very dark and quiet outside. I
was not sure on what I supposed to do. I was thinking to switch on my laptop
and wrote some entries for my blog. But, I changed my mind as I did not have
courage and strength to do that. I switched on TV instead. Instantly I pressed
106 channel which was Astro Oasis Channel, the one and only channel on Astro
which provides religious programmes and religious talks. It has been such a
long time I do not have chance to watch Oasis as everyday the TV is controlled
by my 5 year-old son who spends all day long watching cartoon channe!!!
I felt very lucky and such a relieve for
being able to watch Oasis alone at 3.30 in the morning.
It was Dr. Fatma Az-Zahra hosted a
programme called Ar-Rayyan. I have been admiring Dr. Fatma since I was in
University. I still remember every time I went back home to Kota Bharu during
semester break, my auntie always told me about Dr. Fatma’s talk which really
amused her and inspired her to be a better person. She also said how adorable
this lady was, for being an Egyptian dentist who owned a dental clinic in Kota
Bharu and at the same time very active preaching religious talks in Kelantan’s
dialects. In fact she was very close to the hearts of most ladies in Kota Bharu
who always listen to her preachings.
The topic presented by her was ‘Never Give Up From HIS Blessings’
(Jangan Berputus Asa Daripada Rahmat Allah). Once she mentioned the topic, my
heart never stopped pounding. It was pounding very hard! I was so anxious to
listen and to know details about the topic…
She started by saying Allah’s blessing
is much much richer than HIS anger. HE easily blessed us if HE was pleased by
what we do.
She then, pointed out on ways to get
Allah’s blessings. Amongst the ways that I could remember were repent
(bertaubat) , practicing good deeds (mengamalkan amalan soleh), jihad (making
sacrifices because of Allah) and she did mention a few more but unfortunately I
could not remember.
She continued by clarifying on the details
meaning of ‘practicing good deeds’ (amalan soleh). Before she elaborated the meaning further, she
introduced and greeted the special guest who came to studio to be with her. The
guest was Puan Sri Ziela Jalil, a charming beautiful lady who used to be an
actress before, but with Allah’s blessing she’s now no longer an actress and so
does her appearance. She looks very sweet in ‘tudung’ (head cover) and modern
‘kurung’ (traditional Malay dress which cover whole body)
.
After giving brief greetings to Pn.
Ziela, Dr. Fatma then, stressed out that ‘practicing good deeds’ includes
sincerely performing 5 times prayer to
GOD, being very helpful ; easily giving donations to those needed (sedekah),
reciting ‘zikir’ all the time, always in ‘wudhuk’ (ablution) and also be good to parents .
She points out that through sincere
prayer, our sins will be forgiven by Allah and so does the ablution (wudhuk)
able to eliminate the sins done by each parts of our body. The water that flows
on every part will clear away all the sins and we will be clean from any sins.
She later wrapped up the programme by
once again reminding us to keep on seeking for Allah’s blessings as HIS
blessings will be the source of
happiness in today’s life and
also in the day after.
For me, hardly went to sleep on that
night was such a blessing in disguise for getting the most valuable knowledge
which I could practice to lead a better life and for a better Muslim. Thanks
Dr. Fatma… May GOD blesses you always.

CONFUSING WORDS
Hi readers ,
It has been quite some time I do not post new entry for this blog. I'm quite busy with lots of proofreading and translating job. Huh...what a tiring job ! As a reminder to those who want to be a proofreader and translator like me, make sure you are really passionate in this job as it really needs high interest, great patient and the most important ones is sacrifice ! Ya...lots need to be sacrificed : sleeping time , leisure time , favourite tv programmes and lots more !!! Anyway, as long as you have spirit , interest and high motivation, nothing is impossible . This is my secret for still keeping up with this job !.
Well, what i want to discuss here is about confusing words . Sometimes we come across words which are quite similar either in sounds or spelling that make us confuse in using those words . Here are a few examples with its explanation :
Quite /Quiet
quite - This book is quite good ( medium/moderate/so so - bad _____ quite good _____ good )
quiet - My class is very quiet ( silent / no noise )
Lose / Loose
If you lose something, you do not know where it is / you can't find it.
Loose means they are not tight because they are too big!
These trousers are very loose.
Fell/ Felt
Fell is from fall/fell/fallen
Yesterday I fell and broke my arm.
Felt is from feel/felt/felt
I felt ill yesterday, but I feel OK today.
Similar or related meanings
Lend/Borrow
If you lend something, you give it.
If you borrow something, you get it.
Will you lend me your bicycle? ( =you give it to me for one day/an hour, etc.)
Can I borrow your bicycle? (= I get it from you)
Other Words Often Mixed Up
In English the afternoon is from about 12 0'clock till 5 or 6 p.m.
The evening is from 5 or 6 p.m until about 9 or 10 p.m.
After 9 or 10 p.m. it is the night.

THE CAR'S DRIVER OR THE DRIVER OF THE CAR
Hello there! It's time for some grammar lesson.
Don't worry, I'm not giving a long boring grammar lesson but instead, I want to emphasize on areas which commonly cause confusion among English users which is Possessive Nouns. PN is very simple and easy which is used to show that something belongs to a person or an animal. For example :
Ihsan's phone (phone belonging to Ihsan)
The girl's book (book belonging to the girl)
The cat's kittens (kittens belonging to the cat)
However, many normally make mistakes when using PN for non-living things. Remember! the above rule is not applicable for non-living things.
For example, we say or write :
The cover of the book NOT the book's cover.
The roof of the house NOT the house's roof.
The driver of the car NOT the car's driver
The wheels of the bus NOT the bus's wheels
The top of the hill NOT the hill's top The people of the village NOT the village's people
Hope with this brief lesson of Possessive Nouns may clear away all the confusion!
Below are some exercises for those of you who want to try. Good Luck !
Write out the sentences using the possessive form of the bolded noun .
1.We bought a loaf of bread at the baker shop
. 2.John went to the dentist clinic yesterday.
3.The nurses uniforms were at the laundry.
4.The manager attended to the customer complaints.
5.They prepared the babies food.

Tips To Master English Language
Hello readers ! Nice to write to all of you again.
This time I would like to state my view upon "How To Master English Language". I always wonder every time I come across many advertisements promoting learners to learn English with them as they claim English could be mastered in 3 months or some others claim in 1 month. Wow! How amazing those people are, for making the mastery of English language in such very short time!
For me, mastering English language means able to master all aspects of English like grammatical, writing, reading, listening and speaking . Anyhow the most important skills are writing and speaking. Could you imagine learning these skills in 3 months or 1 month . Are you able to speak fluent English only by attending classes for 3 months or are your writing free from grammatical errors in 1 month?
There are possibilities for some improvements in your English but mastering it is a miracle. So, in order to master better English, we need to take extra precaution. Don't simply attracted to so many catchy and interesting advertisements which are merely meant of making money!
I'd rather suggest to learn bit by bit but continuously and consistently. It doesn't matter to learn only a few for a day, but make sure you learn every day. Set your own timetable in a week. There must be days for grammar, for vocabs, for writing and also speaking. Spend only a few minutes a day for each category because you might easily get bored or fed up if spending time too long. You can spend reading grammar rules from blogs or do grammar exercises for 30 minutes every time you spend for grammar session. I believe if you practice this tips consistently, your English will be improved and very soon you will master this international language.
Have a try and good luck!

INTERESTED IN OR INTERESTED AT, GOOD IN OR GOOD AT ?
Salam and Good Day to all readers !
Wow! How fast the time moves, now we are in the middle of January in the new year 2012. Hope everything is as planned and all of you are as energetic as usual.
Well, for today's entry I just want to share a very simple lesson which commonly known by us but yet many of us too, tend to make mistakes in using it. The lesson is about "collocations". What is collocations ? Collocations is words that go together. To be more specific, the two words must be used together in every phrase or sentence that we want to produce . Here are a few examples of collocations :
be absent from
be accustomed to
be afraid of
be agree with (someone), agree about/on (something)
talk to/with (someone), talk about (something)
These are only a few examples of collocations or also known as preposition combinations for all words are combined with prepositions like at,in,of ,to, with, from, etc.
Mistakes always done by users in choosing the correct preposition to be combined . For instance, the phrase good at language/English/Maths always mistakenly used as good in language/English/Maths. The same goes to go by foot. This is wrong to mean go walking because the correct usage is go on foot.
It's very common to make mistakes like these :
A: How do you reach here?
B: I come by foot . My house is just a stone throw from here. ( The correct one is come on foot )
C: I'm interested at him because he is very good in winning my heart. ( The correct one : interested in , good at )
I think it's enough for this time . Hope all readers may benefit from this entry.
