KESALAHAN LAZIM DALAM PENULISAN BAHASA INGGERIS

1. Penggunaan Huruf Besar (Capitalization)

Kadang2 penggunaan huruf besar dlm BI agak mengelirukan. Wbp, kekeliruan/kesalahan yang biasa dilakukan ialah dalam penggunaan adjectives, nouns dan nama2 sesuatu bahasa.

Mungkin TIPS ini boleh membantu untuk mengelakkan kekeliruan :

• Capitalize 'I'

• Capitalize nations, national nouns and adjectives - French,
Russian, English, Italy, Canadian, etc.

• Capitalize the first letter of the first word in a new sentence
or question

• Do NOT capitalize common nouns. Nouns are only capitalized
if they are the name of something

• Capitalize proper names of people, institutions, festivals, etc.

Ini adalah contoh utk tips 4 & 5 :

I go to university. (common noun -> university)
BUT
I go to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia. (noun used as proper name)

BAGAIMANA MENJADIKAN 5 WORDS A DAY LEBIH EFEKTIF (2)

Apabila saya tulis ttg teknik yg lebih EFEKTIF utk menulis 5 words a day, ramai juga yang bertanya dan meminta detail utk teknik ini.

Di sini saya kongsikan bagaimana 5 words boleh ditulis setiap hari:

1. Aback (Adverb )

Taken aback by the negative remarks ( surprise / terkejut )
( Lebih baik jika dilakarkan situasi ini (visualised ) )

2. Abandon ( Verb )

We abandon the old car in the empty parking lot
(leave behind,forsake / meninggalkan )

( Lukiskan lakaran kereta buruk yang ditinggalkan )

Cukup setakat 2 contoh diberikan .

Saya harap anda mampu melakukannya setiap hari .
Melabelkan jenis perkataan samada Noun, Verb , Adjective , Adverb dll amat penting supaya anda ingat dan faham bagaimana perkataan itu boleh digunakan.

BAGAIMANA MENJADIKAN 5 WORDS A DAY LEBIH EFEKTIF (1)

Ramai yang cuba meningkatkan penguasaan Bhs Inggeris dgn kaedah 5 words or 10 words a day.

Memang benar kaedah meningkatkan pengetahuan vocabulary amat penting tetapi mungkin ramai yg tidak tahu bahawa cara yg lebih EFEKTIF ialah dengan menulis keseluruhan ayat atau frasa di mana perkataan itu dijumpai .

Sbg contoh ;

Jangan hanya menulis begini :

Ample - enough , sufficient , adequate ( Cukup, Mencukupi )

Sebaiknya utk lebih EFEKTIF :

Ample ( adj ) - ...had ample food for the party. (enough,sufficient)
- ...of ample proportions. (large )

Kenapa perlu ditulis begini ?
Saya rasa anda mesti tahu kenapa. Mungkin boleh berkongsi disini utk lebih pencerahan.

PUBLIC SPEAKING TIPS

Hari ni masih ingin sentuh ttg Public Speaking. Semalam Nurul Amirah Hamzah ada bertanya ttg tips utk confident dalam PS.

Sebenarnya ramai yg hadapi masalah tdk yakin bila perlu bercakap seorang diri di khalayak apatah lagi dlm Bhs Inggeris. Saya cukup memahami krn saya juga antara pelajar yg cukup takut dan fobia dgn PS suatu waktu dahulu. Lebih2 lagi sering dihambur dgn kata2 negatif dan kesat sewaktu di universiti.

Pengalaman dan cerita sedih saya ini banyak saya kongsikan dlm buku tulisan saya 'Travelog Bahasa Inggeris : Kisah Pelajar Corot Menjadi Guru Bhs Inggeris ". Huhu...ramai yg bertanya ttg buku ini especially pelajar2 saya .
 Jawabannya buku ini msh dlm peringkat penulisan, belum siap sepenuhnya lagi krn byk penambahan perlu dibuat utk memenuhi kehendak penerbit. Doakan ya agar saya mampu jua menyiapkan naskah ini.

Okay, berbalik ttg tips tadi, di sini saya kongsikan sedikit tips2 penting mengikut pengalaman sendiri sbg pensyarah dan speaker :

1. Persediaan

Perlu betul2 bersedia dgn isi yg hebat . Isi perlu disusun secara tertib dan perlu juga banyak menggunakan 'connectors/penanda wacana' utk menunjukkan kesinambungan idea. Ini penting agar tdk tergagap2 dan idea yg melompat2. Anda akan berasa lebih yakin bila cukup persediaan.

2. 3 Minit Pertama

Penyampaian & Penampilan pada 3 minit pertama adalah yg plg penting sbg penentu berjaya @ gagal.
Bagaimana utk berjaya ? Jawabnya ialah 'intro' yg memukau dan berjaya mencuit audien.

Antara intro yg hebat ialah mengajukan soalan @ menyatakan sst isu yg sgt terkini @ memulakan ucapan dgn 'quotes/proverbs/saying/statistik' etc.

3. Body language & Eye Contact

Ingat " Action Speaks Louder Than Words ". Maksudnya pergerakan badan , tangan dan pandangan mata lebih membawa makna brbanding ucapan anda. Jadi berhati2 dgn pergerakan.

Jgn terlampau byk bergerak @ menggerakkan tangan
secara melampau. Sekiranya rasa gugup @ gementar cuba seboleh mungkin kawal pergerakan.

Sebaiknya bertenang dan anggap audien anda tdk banyak pengetahuan ttg subjek yang disampaikan . Anda lebih superior pd saat itu.

Anggaplah audien anda ' are very tiny that you can easily put inside your pocket '. Ini adalah ajaran guru saya yg masih saya praktik hingga kini.

Cukup setakat ini dulu. Moga bermanafaat utk Amirah Hamzah dan juga semua pelajar2 saya yg akan menghadapi Public Speaking Test minggu depan.

Memandangkan ujian PS tdk brp lama shj lagi, saya dedahkan pelajar dgn practice dan beberapa 'speech pattern' yg perlu dipilih mengikut jenis tajuk.

Umpamanya utk tajuk spt ' How to improve the mastery of English amongst rural students' , speech pattern yg perlu dipilih ialah Problem Solution Pattern iaitu s/ada mmberi byk solusi dan akhirnya mncdgkan 1 shj solusi terbaik @ blh juga mmberi hanya 1 solusi ttp mghuraikan byk sebab utk solusi tersebut.

Truly indeed, I don't have specific answer for those questions and I also do not think it's wise enough to point fingers blaming individual or organisation or system for those matters.

Everything lies upon us...how serious we are in achieving what we need in life. Are we courageous,spirited and motivated enough? Are we willing to sacrifice our leisure moments, valuable time and even money for enhancing our mastery in this language?

I myself used to be the worst student and was placed in the second last group of English class!
I also used to lament the same thing...BUT ...what change me is...transforming the negative to positive and STOP lamenting , START taking action with full of spirit to be SUCCESSFUL !

We can do it !

VOCAB BOOSTER THROUGH LEARNING COLLOCATIONS

Another way for vocab booster is learning vocab through collocations. What is collocations? Collocations is words that go together. For example :

have a shower

How many more collocations for 'have' could you write ?
or
list down 5 words that can go together with 'weather'

Tip: Always write down collocations when you learn a new word.

Lots of us having problem in increasing or memorising new vocabularies in learning English. Typically, what we do is writing down the vocabulary lists and try to memorize the new words... Oppsss... this is not very helpful as it's only for short term memory. Far much better way is expanding vocabulary with Vocabulary Tables ! MY NEW BOOK ON COMMON CONFUSION OF ENGLISH LANGUAGE !!!

It has been almost a month i do not update any new status ! Quite busy writing,updating and editing my new book which will be published very soon... hope so, InshaaAllah !

The book is actually the compilation of my writings on common popular confusion of English language which has been written on my blog and facebook page. It is written in brief and simple handbook size which is easier for everyone especially students to make quick reference in writing , speaking or learning grammar !

PLEASE HELP ME... I D0N'T KNOW HOW TO SPELL...

Menarik juga utk brkongsi pengalaman di sebuah pasaraya thari tadi. 
Seorang gadis muda mghmpiri sy utk mmpromosikn tilam dn katil. Kebetulan sdg mncari katil baru sy trtarik utk mndgr dgn lbh lnjut. Dia mmbawa sy brjumpa ketuanya dn beliau mmberi penerangan lbh lnjut dlm bhs inggeris yg sedikit brcampur bhs melayu. 

Diringkaskn cerita sy brsetuju utk mmbeli brg trsebut dn gadis itu diarah utk mengisi borang tempahan. Sy berikn mklumat yg dipinta. Tiba di ruangan description of product ketuanya menyebut perincian produk dlm bhs ing spt king size matress...dll. 

Gadis itu trkial2 smbil memandang sy lalu dia tanya macamana ya kak nak eja? Sy trkejut ttp terus mengajar beliau menulis perkataan2 trsebut. Ketuanya menyebut : F.O.C - 3 pillows n 1 bolster...
Saya mengajarnya mengeja prkataan2 trsebut...bimbang disalah tulis habislah saya..

Sy ckp sedih dgn penguasaan bhs inggeris gadis trsebut yg ckp lemah wpun sudah tamat pelajaran hgga ting. 5
Nasib baik dia diterima bekerja disitu ttp sy sempat nasihatkn dia agar lebih berusaha utk kuasai bhs inggeris...
